The Chinese Language Teachers’ Federation of Australia (Inc.) was established in June 1994 at its first conference in Melbourne, attended by representatives of the Chinese Language Teachers’ Associations of Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia as the first single-language teachers’ association in Australia. The Federation (CLTFA) was then incorporated in Western Australia on 8th March 1999.
Over time, other affiliated Chinese language teacher associations were established in New South Wales, Queensland, Australia Capital Territory, Tasmania and Northern Territory. Conferences have been held annually in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney as well as one in New Zealand.

Bringing teachers of Chinese together from all over Australia and the world at the Chinese Language Teachers’ Federation of Australia (INC) annual conferences enhances the sharing of teaching and learning of Chinese language teachers in Australia and also promoting Chinese language learning in Australian schools.
Over the last 27 years, CLTFA has played a significant role through its many projects and initiatives in supporting 4,500 Chinese language teachers and 188,000 students throughout Australia.
